Children's literature is a branch of the literature which has not only the generalcharacter that all kinds of literature have but also its own individuality. Because of thedevelopment of the children's literature, its translation activity started and has been carriedout on ever since. In recent years, based on different translation theories, many scholars athome and abroad have made considerably detailed study on the translation of the children'sliterature and a lot of significant findings have been achieved. However, in terms of the entiretranslation system, the translation of the children's literature is marginalized and has notaroused enough attention. Due to the specificity of the children's literature, there are stillsome problems for the scholars to explore. This thesis mainly studies the rules which should be obeyed by the translators in thecourse of translating children's literature. In addressing the theoretical foundation and thepractical issues in the translation of children'literature, this thesis tries to illustrate how theskopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule guide and influence the translators'translation procedure. The thesis proves the feasibility and necessity in the translation of thechildren's literature with the Skopos theory as the guide. This thesis has adopted the method of case study. By comparison, it makes an analysisof how the three rules of the Skopos theory guide the translator in their translation activityespecially in their choice of translation tactics. All the illustrative examples come from theclassic of the children's literature Harry Potter series.
