A Report On The Translation Of Children's Literature From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

Domestic literature is becoming mature,children's literature translation is gradually concerned.However,children's literature is still far from being studied and translated deeply though literature translation is achieving continuous development.The paper is a report of translation practice for children's literature which takes examples of Chinese to English translation and attempts to analyze the characteristics of the text and translation of children's literature in order to put forward emphases and difficulties in the translation and summarize translation skills used to improve my own translation capacity and hope to provide some reference for peers.In translation,the reader-centered principle of Skopos Theory is adopted.It requires that the translator should be clear of the purpose of the translation from the beginning to the end of the translation work.All the translation strategies are guided with Skopos Theory and the purpose of the translation is decided by the readers.In terms of the children's literature,almost all the readers are children who are lack of comprehension ability.According to Skopos Theory,the translation must be concerned with the readers' knowledge and be understood by them.Thus,the corresponding strategy is applied to words,sentences and dialogues to make the translation be accepted by the children.In the translation practice,the author realizes that a qualified translator must make sure that what is accepted by the children and should also be equipped with excellent language skills,rich cultural knowledge and some theoretical knowledge of translation.The last but not the least is that,the translator is required to have a children heart and know what the children are thinking.Only in that way can the translation be of high quality.
