The Chinese New Poetry has been developing for nearly 100 years.The challenge and criticism exist since Chinese New Poetry appeared.Poets and poetic critics attempted to make a breakthrough from the source of Chinese New Poetry.However,the studies on Hu Shi,who was the first Chinese New poet,are limited to revolution.Most of the researchers acknowledge Chinese New Poetry as a tool of Vernacular Revolution and a liberation of Chinese Poetic Styles,but the studies on the aspect of poeticity are few.The poeticity and the theory of syllable of New Poetic and Poetry Changshi has been covered.Many readers hold the opinion that syllable does not exist in Hu Shi' Poets.So called Natural syllable means No syllable.The author of this article found the Hu Shi put a high value on syllable of poets at the beginning of the Chinese New Poetry.This article focuses on Hu Shi's early theories of syllable and thoroughly studied in New Poetic and Poetry Changshi,finally found the true tendency of Hu Shi's theory of Natural syllable.The poeticity value of Natural syllable theory has also been discussed and rethought.Part 1 reviews the papers on New Poetic and Poetry Changshi and proposes the research emphasis and research method based on the early research.Chapter 1 focuses on New Poetic,summarizing the process of Hu Shi' discovery about poetry syllable.The diagram of Natural Syllable Theory has been established and the logic of Natural Syllable Theory has been rethought.Chapter 2 focuses on Poetry Changshi.A summary about poetry forms and metres of traditional poetry and western poetry has been given with the aid of Hanyulvshixue and Xiandaishilvxue written by Wang Li.Based on that and features of Modern Chinese,6 dimensions of Poetry Changshi,which are stanzas,verses,lines,number of words,metres and light tone,have been established and analyzed.By data statistics and analysis of 67 poems,the tendency of Poetry Changshi about poem form and syllable has been found.To thoroughly study in Hu Shi's experiments about syllable,the syllable of several typical poems of 3 categories,which are Ci Qu syllable,translated poems' syllable and natural syllable,has been analyzed and the syllable features of Poetry Changshi has been summarized.Chapter 3 discusses the comparison between Hu Shi's early poetry syllable theory and practice.Generally speaking,Poetry Changshi put into practice the theory of New Poetic,the concept of natural syllable has been explained with the practice of Poetry Changshi,namely the relative stable syllables in the free poem form,which could be briefly called rhythm circle.By the rethought of Natural Syllable Theory and value of poeticity,it could be seen that rhythm circle links to order and balance,which is the beauty of poetry nature,and natural syllable will make a difference of the core of poetry between traditional poetry and Chinese New Poetry.
