Passive sentences are the basic structure of the language,which are widely used in Chinese and English.One of characteristics in legal English is that there are a lot of passive sentences.Thus the translation of passive sentences in legal English is of critical importance.The author of this report discusses the translation techniques of passive sentences in The Police Power,Public Policy and Constitutional Rights(chapter XIII).First of all,the author talks about the background of translation materials,the significance of the translation report and its structures briefly.Then,the author of this report explains the definition of passive sentence,the classifications of passive sentences,and discusses the translation techniques of passive sentences.Next,the author of this report explores three main translation techniques of passive sentences of The Police Power,Public Policy and Constitutional Rights(chapter XIII): translating English passive sentences into Chinese passive sentences,translating English passive sentences into Chinese active sentences and translating English passive sentences into Chinese non-subject sentences.Finally,the author of this report summarizes the translation experience and problems to be solved in the process of translation practices.The author also hopes to provide a reference for the translation.
