A Report On The E-C Translation Of The Politics Of Human Rights In Australia (Excerpt Of Chapter Five)

The source text of this report is selected from the fifth chapter “The Rights of Indigenous Australians” of the book THE POLITICS OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN AUSTRALIA,which was written by Australian author Louise Chill in collaboration with John Chesterman and Lisa Hill.This chapter mainly focuses on the development of the rights of Indigenous Australians,including four stages: from no rights,civil rights,indigenous rights to anti-rights.It also includes the introduction of two special rights of Indigenous Australians: “native title” and “self-determination”,as well as the different responses of two administrations of Australian government on the “stolen generation” and their opposition to the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.This chapter is a brief introduction to the political life of Indigenous Australians.This report can be divided into four parts,including translation project description,translation process description,case analysis and conclusion.The third part is the core chapter of this report.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,this paper analyzes the process of E-C translation of the source text from lexical level and syntactical level combined with cases analysis.At the lexical level,the report mainly studies the translation of some proper nouns and culture-loaded words by means of literal translation,transliteration and extension translation.At the syntactical level,some of the long and complex sentences in the text are analyzed by means of inversion,amplification and restructuring.In addition,this paper also analyzes the transformation of some passive sentences in the text,and the coherence and connection as well as the logical relationship between long and complex sentences in the text to make the translation more in accordance with Chinese,and then convey the information and connotation of the source text more accurately.
