| This translation report chooses Ireland Patents Act No.12 of 1964 as translation material.It is a legislative text about Patent Act in Ireland.Patent Act belongs to the field of intellectual property laws which is closely connected with the benefits of people.It plays a vital role in promoting the development of our socialism market economy.At present,the previous studies on Ireland Patent Act are few and its Chinese version has not found yet.The author hopes that the translation of this act may have benefits for the legal workers concerned and the improvement of our patent system.Synonym juxtaposition is a common linguistic phenomenon in English legal texts,especially in legislative texts.So the author attempts to focus on the translation methods for synonym juxtaposition in Ireland Patents Act.This report discusses the pervasiveness,characteristics,types and effects of synonym juxtaposition in English legislative texts.It has been found that the pervasiveness of synonym juxtaposition is attributed to the historical,rhetorical and legal factors.Synonym juxtaposition can be divided into three types: juxtaposition with absolute synonyms,juxtaposition with relative synonyms and juxtaposition with relevant synonyms.Based on Nida's theory of functional equivalence,the report puts forward the corresponding translation methods for each type. |
