As international engineering projects have been increasing steadily, the significance of contracts for engineering projects, which are a necessary part of engineering project management, becomes quite evident. Therefore, the author has chosen and explored the project translated during her summer internship entitled “Contract for the Engineering,Procurement and Construction of Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant” to study the translation of contracts for engineering projects. The purpose of this report is to provide reference and enlightenment for inexperienced translators of contracts for construction projects, and help them improve the quality of their translation.First, this report briefly states the background of the selection of this project, reviews relevant literature and mentions the significance of this research.Next, the report discusses the major linguistic characteristics of contracts for construction projects, including those of diction, sentences, and the text type, before it describes the process of translating the project. Then it illustrates how to deal with the challenges related to the translation of the project.By means of the approach of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, the author proves or verifies such techniques for translation of words, sentences and the text as selection of accurate words and expressions in view of the specific context and historical factors, translation of complex sentences and passive sentences by means of division, reversion of order, conversion of word classes and special emphasis on coherence and cohesion in text translation. Finally, the author sums up her main findings and points out the shortcomings of the thesis that need to be improved.
