With rapid development of economic globalization and frequent foreign business interaction between China and other nations,contracts for foreign business and their translation have been playing an obviously significant role in international trade.This thesis mainly describes the process of translating contracts for foreign business and proves their translation techniques by making a case study of the text entitled Supply Agreement for E Drive Train System.First,this report briefly states the background of the project,reviews relevant literature and mentions the significance of this research.Next,the report discusses the major linguistic characteristics of Supply Agreement for E Drive Train System,including features of diction and sentences,before it describes the process of translating the text.Then it illustrates how to deal with the challenges related to the translation of the agreement.By means of the method of qualitative analysis,the author proves the technique of selection of accurate words and expressions in view of the specific context for translation of archaic words,polysemic words,and technical terms.In addition,by means of qualitative and quantitative analysis,the author verifies such techniques as retainment of the original order,reversion of the original order,and conversion of word classes,addition of words,division,and combination for translation of complex sentences,as well as conversion of the voices for translation of passive sentences and special emphasis on cohesion and coherence in text translation.Finally,the author summarizes her main findings and points out the aspects of the thesis that need to be improved.This report aims to provide reference and enlightenment for inexperienced translators of contracts for foreign business and help them improve their translation.
