This is a translation report,the material of which is from Chapter Three and Chapter Four of Mary Balogh's new novel,Only Beloved.The novel has reached the top of New York Times bestselling list after it was published in May,2016.It belongs to a romantic novel and tells a love story with a perfect end on the background of the peninsular war and the battle of Waterloo.In this translation report,the translator presents introduction to translation report,background of translation practice,translation difficulties and translation methods and summary of translation practice.The translator expounds several difficulties and problems in the process of translation from the two aspects of vocabulary and syntax,and explains translation methods by showing specific examples.The translator adopts combined method of free translation and domestication when she translates the title of this novel;uses amplification to translate words,at the same time,shows some examples of choice of word-meanings;uses sequential translation,division and recasting translation to deal with the long sentences.In the end of Chapter Three,the translator emphasizes the translation of attributive clause and complicated sentences.The purpose of this translation report is to put forward some feasible skills and methods for this novel in English-Chinese translation,such as translation methods and techniques,the point to narrative,through analyzing the translation practice,and to discuss basic model of translation of this type of novel.In addition,there are important significance of knowing the narrative methods of romantic novel,mastering the technique of shaping characters in novel,solving problems in the translation progress and improving the translator's translation level of romantic novel.
