Recently, numerous theorists have been writing a lot of papers about translation theories, and the arguments about it are also various.Which one is better? Literal translation or free translation? Foreignization or domestication? Experts have their own opinions.PeterNewmark, theorist and translator from England, put forward a new way about translation theory in his Approaches to Translation. He held the view that semantic translation or communicative translation should be used according to different text types. He classified the translation texts mainly into three types: expressive text, informative text and vocative text. His translation theory was widely discussed and welcomed since it was put forward. He studied translation theory as well as English language, and his theory is expressive and understandable, which gave me important guidance. This text comes from The Songs of Blood and Sword by Fatimah Bhutto. It describes the story about a big complex feudal family.Political plays the major part in this text, but it also contains many details about the personal lives of its family members'.So it is a text full of political elements as well as personal tastes. My translation is mainly directed by the communicative translation by PeterNewmark,a theorist and translator from England. It is an informative text for the most part according to PeterNewmark, and some of content has the features of expressive text. The strategy of communicative translation is the most widely used in translating this text, but sometimes communicative translation and semantic translation are used together when necessary.Besides, some translation skills are also chose in translating, such as amplification, annotation, shifting, splitting, sequential method and so on.
