This thesis is a reflective research report on the basis of the author's Chinese-English translation practice of the fourth chapter of Bohai State.According to Newmark's text strategy, this text belongs to informative text.It has two main characteristics.Firstly, there are many words with cultural connotation, which need to be made some cultural compensation.Secondly, there are a lot of complex long sentences and parallel short sentences. If they are translated literally, there will be the losses of meaning and confusion for the target readers. Thus, semantic compensation is needed. This reflective research report consists of four parts. In the first part, the author introduced briefly the background and the significance of the translation project. In the second part, the author reviewed the translation process from three aspects including preparation,during-translation and revision. In the third part, under the guidance of translation compensation theory, the author discussed the difficulties in the translation and analyzed some translation strategies and methods based on the examples from the perspective of the lexical compensation and the sentence compensation. In the lexical compensation, the author used the methods of amplification, annotation with text and specification to achieve the cultural compensation. In the sentence compensation, the author used the methods of division, combination, conversion of voices and recasting translation to make the semantic compensation. In the fourth part, the author concluded this report and presented the limitations and the suggestions for the future research.
