Although the literature and calligraphy belong to different categories, but the profound internal unity exists and the spirit of essence and the evolution of the law are linking up.On the basis of the existing research results, this paper focuses on the similarities and differences between literary and calligraphic criticism methods, and pushes the comparative research into a deeper level. The introduction part mainly discusses the writing reason and research summary of this paper and introduces four kinds of criticism methods which are the most commonly used in ancient literature and calligraphy criticism. The four methods respectively are Source-tracing Criticism,Rank-judging Criticism,Analogy Criticism and The style being the man Criticism. These distinctive methods of criticism clearly show the Chinese people attach importance to the integral connection, the visual impression, the sentiment experience, the ethics, fuzzy and uncertain thinking characteristics. The first, second, third and fourth chapters respectively discusses four methods of criticism of ancient literature and calligraphy. The first and second sections of each chapter discuss the similarities and differences of the use of this method in literature and calligraphy.Specifically, the first chapter explores the Source-tracing Criticism, which is derived from the academic method of the study of Confucian classics, and after the use of critics,it aims at measuring and commenting creators and works in an era of cultural and historical background. It's easy to understand their genuine accomplishments and values if we apply this method to criticism. But this method lacks strict and rigorous logic argument and analysis. It's not easy for the general reader to understand. The second chapter discusses the Rank-judging Criticism, which originates in judging figures and is influenced by the "Nine-rank system",which is prevalent in the official selection system. This method requires us to rank a high number of artists and their works. It's hard to be accurate and convinced by most people, but this method is necessary for literary criticism. The third chapter discusses the Analogy Criticism, which is closely related to the unique thought and culture of ancient China, that is,using abstract methods to express abstract thinking, and the western and other countries use this literary criticism method very rarely. It places extra emphasis on entirety, direct feelings and connections. If the Analogy Criticism used properly,it can highlight the traits of the objects and impress us.But it also generates the random, fuzzy and other shortcomings easily. This method also tests the readers' understanding at the same time. The fourth chapter explores The style being the man Criticism. This method is based on the relationship between the speech and virtue of the confucianists and involved in the artists' personality and creation, the process of artistic creation, the relationship between art and man and so on.It's the basic proposition to study ancient art, aesthetics, theory of literature and art, criticism history and so on.
