A Report On The Translation Of MT's Journey To The Enterprise

As translation technology is now thriving in China's and the world's language service industry,the knowledge and application of it is becoming increasingly important.Such a trend encourages the author to undertake the project of translating and localizing MT's Journey to the Enterprise,an English industrial report issued by the Common Sense Advisory in May 2016 and not yet translated into Chinese before the author's translating it,so as to inform the Chinese in-training translators,industrial practitioners and the academia of the newest development of translation technology.The author completes the project in the light of the Dialectical Systemic Philosophy of Translation,by following the translation project management procedures and applying CAT in process operation,and by employing complementary methods and techniques in translating the linguistic aspects and localizing the extra-linguistic elements of the source text.In terms of its process,the author completes the project in several phases chiefly according to the relevant translation project management procedures.In the pre-translation phase,by preparing a schedule,a term base,a project environment,and fully comprehending the source text,the author initiates the project and creates a translation task via SDL Trados Studio 2015.In the while-translation phase,the author first accomplishes the translation of the linguistic aspects of the source text and then carries out the localization of the extra-textual elements such as the tables shown in the editor pane of SDL Trados Studio 2015.The author reviews the bilingual document in Word format,re-imports it into SDL Trados Studio and finally exports the draft translation.In the post translation phase,the author first translates and localizes the graphics unable to be recognized or imported by SDL Trados Studio 2015 and then adjusts the format of the target text to the Chinese readers.In terms of its methods and techniques,the author translates and localizes the linguistic and extra-linguistic aspects of the source text by applying various complementary methods and techniques.Among them,the author approaches the problems in dealing with lexical,syntactic and stylistic aspects of the text through the use of the method of domesticating translation and its corresponding techniques.The author deals with the problems in localizing the extra-linguistic aspects such as tags,graphics and publication information in analogy to the domestication method and relevant techniques.The author's translation and localization of MT's Journey to the Enterprise,with both its advantages and disadvantages,may be meaningful to later practice.It suggests that later practitioners should adopt a systemic view,follow a systematic procedure,and adopt complementary methods and techniques of translation(and localization)in such projects.Besides,they should also pay special attention to the building of credible corpora as well as make the best use of recent translation technology.
