A Report On The Translation Of Life Is Strings Of Sanxian

This translation report takes the short story Life is Strings of Sanxian,which is written by Chinese contemporary novelist Shi Tiesheng as the original text.It mainly tells that two men,who make a living by performing different Chinese stories,have to break 1,000 strings to get the prescription for the treatment of blindness.This work gives people the faith of living bravely.In the translation process,the writer uses different translation strategies to make this report be based on the being true to the original while remaining its charm.This report consists three parts.The first part is the introduction of the original text and the writer.Shi Tiesheng's work is plain and simple,and make readers ponder,giving us enlightenment.The second part mainly analyzes the cases,such as the words with Chinese characteristics,Beijing dialects,rhetoric and short dialogues.To enable target language readers understand the work clearly,the author uses amplification in the translation of the words with Chinese characteristics and Beijing dialects.Amplification and synthesization are used in the translation of metaphor and conversion is used in onomatopoeia.About the dialogues,the author makes mistakes on purpose in the translation to display the characters' personality.What's more,the author tries to make the translation pithy and avoid repetition on account of the differences between Chinese and English.Based on the original text,it offers some solutions to the translation problems.Finally,it makes a conclusion for this translation report and gives the suggestions for the future study and work.
