This is a translation project report on Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 of Dealing with China, which is written by the former U.S.Treasury Secretary and published by TWELVE in 2015.This book is divided into three parts, and Chapter 4 and 5 are both from Part One(Banking on Reform). The subhead of Dealing with China is An Insider Unmasks the New Economic Superpower.Paulson spent over 20 years dealing with the latest three generations of Chinese main national leaders and witnessed Chinese economic boom.In this book,Paulson explains how the determined China launch cooperation with U.S.for its economic reform. It's written in the same anecdote-rich,page-turning style as Paulson's bestselling memoir.Under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory, this report attempts to analyze how to produce on the second readers an effect as close as possible to that obtained on the readers of the original by applying the translation techniques of adaptation, conversion, inversion, amplification and division. The translation report is made up of four chapters. The first chapter introduces the translation task by stating its overview, significance and the structure of the project. The second chapter analyzes the source text through its stylistic, and lexical features;that naturally leads to translation tactic. The third chapter makes the prediction of translation difficulty;proposes the functional equivalence theory, the pillar of the report;demonstrates how the functional equivalence theory tactic is employed in syntactic level to overcome difficulties. The last chapter makes a summary and distills experience to be learned.
