This is a translation project report on translating the fourth chapter of College(Un)bound: The Future of Higher Education and What It Means for Studentsauthored byJeffrey J.Selingo in 2013,an experienced educator for the higher education in the U.S..The book not only turns a critical eye on the current state of higher education but also predicts how technology will transform it for a better future. In the fourth chapter of the book,Jeffrey J.Selingo expatiates upon five forces that will change the higher education in the U.S.forever.The translation of the source text involves the current state and the background of the higher education in the U.S.,which requires the translator to gain a wealth of transcultural background knowledge,to master solid Chinese and English language skills, and to employ appropriate translation methods and strategies in line with the text type and a particular translation theory. The text type of the originalis informative.Taking Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory as a guiding principle, the translator of the project mainly discusses techniques dealing with proper nouns and long sentences. The translator illustrates the difficulties encountered in the process of translating as well as their corresponding remedies with concrete examples so as to achieve the closest natural functional equivalence and optimum communication. In this report, the author of the report summarizes the lessons that she has learnt in the project with an expectation of accumulating more related experience on translating informative texts.
