This is a translation project report on College (Un) bound: The Future of Higher Education and What It Means for Students, authored by Jeffery J. Selingo, a senior figure in American higher education. The source text is taken from Chapter 7 Th7 Student Swirl and Chapter 8 Degrees of value of the book. Chapter 7 mainly focuses on the unconventional pathways of getting a college degree in the United States and Chapter 8 discusses the economic value of a college degree. Based on an overview of the translation project and an introduction to its research background, this report describes the difficulties met in the process of translation and introduces the corresponding approaches under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory by Eugene Nida. Guided by Functional Equivalence Theory, the translator flexibly proceeds the translation of proper nouns in the source text and exercises such translation methods as sequence translation, reverse translation,and splitting into shorter parts to translate the long sentences to convey the meaning of the source text in the most natural way while remaining faithful to the source text. The final part of this report summarizes the lessons obtained from the process of translation and problems to be solved in this translation. Through this practice, the translator hopes that this translation can provide valuable reference for the development of Chinese higher education system and help Chinese readers better understand American higher education.
