A Practice Report On Interpreting For 2019 BTS After-Party From The Perspective Of The Adaptation Theory

This paper is a report based on the author's practice of consecutive interpretation at the after-party of the 2019 Beijing Toy Show?BTS?on 17^th August,2019.The author chooses some examples from this practice,and adopts the Adaptation Theory as the theoretical foundation.Being very adaptive and interpretative,this theory well explains the dynamic linguistic choices and adaptations in the process of language use.Thus,the author thinks it is a good fit for analyzing her interpreting performance.In this report,the author analyzes the linguistic choices and contextual adaptations made by her in the interpreting process from the following four perspectives,namely,contextual adaptation,structural adaptation,dynamic adaptation and salience.Under the guidance of the Adaptation Theory,the main part of this report includes 13examples,and some useful interpreting skills used in this practice are thoroughly analyzed,such as abstraction,addition,ellipsis,and domestication.Moreover,the author analyzes some other flexible ways of interpretation in the face of the differences in language and culture with an aim to emphasize on the interpreter's salience.In conclusion,by probing into the interpreting strategies and specific methods used in the process of this interpretation practice,the author hopes that this report can provide some references for the interpreters to handle the challenging issues in other informal occasions.
