This dissertation studies the sentence structure,semantics and pragmatics for the type of frame construction: “Shang X xia Y” in detail on the basis of the corpus we searched from Peking University.In addition,we also discussed some pragmatic features and targeted teaching advices of this frame construction.Chapter 1 introduces the meaning of this research,the research status and the source of corpus.Chapter 2 analyzes the syntax of “Shang X xia Y”.In terms of internal structure,the numbers of X and Y which are all single-syllable words accounts for more than half from the view of embedded component syntax properties of X and Y.From the view of grammatical category of X and Y,the nominal composition,verbal composition and adjective composition are all included.The number of verbal compositions accounts for the highest percent.Chapter 3 analyzes the format meaning of “Shang X xia Y”.In terms of syntactic function,“Shang X xia Y” can act as a variety of ingredients,can also act as a clause in the sentence.In detail,there is similarity among nominal compositions,verbal compositions and adjective compositions for X and Y.The different place between nominal compositions and other two compositions for X and Y is that the latter has stronger predicative characteristics.Chapter 4 analyses the pragmatic characteristics of “Shang X xia Y”.In terms of format meaning,“Shang X xia Y” indicates the space meaning,scope meaning as well as repetitiveness.Chapter 5 puts forward the suggestions on teaching “Shang X xia Y”.From the pragmatic perspective,“Shang X xia Y” has the function of metaphor.It mainly includes the status of junior metaphor and quantity or quality metaphor.In addition,“Shang X xia Y” usually pass information focus by X and Y.“Shang” and “Xia”often serve as general background information.Chinese teachers should pay attention to the process of comparing teaching method to help students master the metaphor thinking.Chinese teachers should gradually guide the students from the perspective of cognitive metaphor to find the similarity between different conceptual domains.In addition,Chinese teachers should help students deepen the understanding of Chinese space metaphors and summarize the law of the spatial metaphor,so as to construct a kind of metaphor cognition pattern.
