Discussion On Modern Chinese Format "A Seven Eight B"

The research object of this dissertation is the “qi A ba B” format that has a high usingfrequency and good productivity, for example: qi shang ba xia, qi shou ba jiao, qi boba zhe, etc. Based on the theory of three-plane theory of Chinese grammar, we have acomprehensive investigation into the internal composition, rhythm, syntax, semanticand pragmatics of this format. At the same time we learn from cognitive linguistics,cultural linguistics and the theories of pragmatics to explain some languagephenomena.The main body is divided into four parts. In the first part, the internal composition,rhythm and syntactic characteristics of “qi A ba B” are discussed from the aspects ofgrammar quality, syllabic number, etc. The internal composition of its related formats“A qi B ba” and “A qi ba B” is also analyzed. In the second part, the semanticfunction of "qi A ba B" format is analyzed, which is compared with the semanticfunction of its related formats. In the third part, we analyze the pragmaticcharacteristics of the format from the aspects of the rhetorical method, the emotioncolor and the style color, the usage of the economy principle of language in thisformat. In the fourth part, we make a summary and put forward the limitations anddeficiencies.
