The Study Of "V Of N" Structure In Baihua(Vernacular Chinese) Translaition In Late Qing Dynasty And Early Republic Of China

The thesis is a systematic research on “V of N” structure in baihua(vernacular Chinese)translation in the late Qing Dynasty and Early Republic of China.The thesis includes six parts,namely introduction,literature review,main part(including three chapters),and conclusion.More details about each chapter are as follows:In the first chapter,the author elaborates on the reason of choosing the topic and its implication,research ideas,research method,and language data.In the second chapter,the author firstly introduces the current research on “V of N”structure.Based on related researches,the author concludes that “V of N”structure belongs to Europeanized Chinese constructions.Therefore,in this chapter,the author conducts a literature review on Europeanized Chinese construction.In Chapter 3,the author analyzes the “V of N” structure in baihua(vernacular Chinese)translation in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China in an overall manner from three aspects,namely,the construction of “N”,the construction of “V”,and syntactic function.“N” includes nouns,personal pronoun,nominal phrase;“V” includes verb,adjective,adverbial phrase,and adjective phrase;“V of N”structures mostly serve as subject,object,and prepositional object.They alone rarely form a sentence.In chapter 4,the author studies chronologically the history of “V of N” structure.The structure first appeared in materials written in the Song Dynasty,with simple structure and syntactic function.The first “V of N” appeared in the Yuan Dynasty,and after developing for more than 700 years,has more complex structures and diverse syntactic functions.In chapter 5,the author explores the internal and external influence which lead to the appearance of larger amount of “V of N” structure in baihua(vernacular Chinese)translation in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China.Originally,“V of N”structure is intrinsic in Chinese;Indo-European languages such as English bolstered the use of the structure in baihua(vernacular Chinese)translation during such period.In chapter 6,the author concludes the main perspectives and the limitation of this research.
