This article is a translation report with its translation material selected from Tipping Point for Planet Earth whose authors are Anthony D.Barnosky and Elizabeth A.Hadly.This book is related to social science,which illustrates the problems the Earth is facing so as to reveal human's irreversible impacts on the Earth.The translation material is with specific linguistic and linguistic features.First,the authors use first person narrative structure to illustrate their own life experiences,make investigation and take examples,which makes the article more convincing and authentic.Second,the authors use a great many statistics and historical events,which gives reference information for scholars and researchers who are specialized in the study of the relationship between the Earth and human beings.Third,the linguistic features of the original text are accurate,concise,rigorous in logic and plain in words,which is a model for social science writers.Fourth,there are a lot of long complex sentences in the text.Meanwhile,the authors use many proper nouns related to geography,culture and nature.Therefore,the translator makes domestication as the main translation strategy.The key points of the translation are the translation of terms,numerals,complex sentences and culture-loaded expressions.The difficult points are how to translate the above items faithfully with the assistance of all kinds of translation techniques.In the case analysis,the translator illustrates the translation techniques to terms,numerals,complex sentences and culture-loaded expressions.Finally,the translator summarizes the translation techniques for terms,numerals,complex sentences and culture-loaded expressions: 1.For the translation of terms,the translator uses parallel text and conversion;2.For the translation of numerals,the translator chooses word-for-word translation,adaptation;3.For the translation of complex sentences,the translator applies linear translation,reconstruction and division as the translation methods;4.For the translation of culture-loaded expressions,considering about the cultural difference between China and the western countries,the translator adapt to the Chinese numerals expression so as to make the culture-loaded expressions acceptable for the target readers.
