With the translation of Chapter 4 of African American Actresses-The Struggle for Visibility,1900-1960 as the research sample, this thesis intends to analyze how the three rules of Skopos Theory are instructive in the translation of biography.Biography,as an important genre of literature,is a combination of historicity and literariness. The translation of biography is complex, because it not only involves history, literature, art and many other aspects, but also takes social, cultural, political and economic background into consideration. The thesis analyzes the translation of biography from the Skopos rule, fidelity rule and coherence rule.Based on the author's translation and previous studies, the thesis aims to explore the translation strategies applied to biographic works.Based on the case study, the three rules of Skopos Theory--Skopos rule, fidelity rule and coherence rule are consistent with the translation of biography. The Skopos Theory not only accommodates historicity and literariness, but also considers the background of the work. Therefore,it can be used as a suitable strategy for translating biographic works.
