Practice Study Report On E-C Translation Of Remembering Koji Ariyoshi:An American Gi In Yenan(Excerpts)

This paper is a practice study report on the E-C translation of Remembering Koji Ariyoshi:An American GI in Yenan which was written by Hugh Deane.In this paper,under the guidance of Skopos Theory,the translator tries to figure out the theory and method of the translating biography.This paper consists of five parts which are the brief introduction to the translation project and the translation process,the review of the relevant translation theory and its application for the author's translation practice,the case studies and the conclusion.In the process of the author's translation,several difficulties occurred,such as the translation of the proper nouns,historical noun,the translation of descriptive sentences,the issue of culture-loaded words of English.To solve these difficulties,the translator adopted several translation skills to make the translation more accurate and natural from the vocabulary perspective,sentences pattern and textual perspectives.The skills include free translation of the word,literal translation of the word added with annotation,the use of four-character idioms,re-expression of the literature words,and explanatory translation of the culture English words.Finally,the translator draws a conclusion that Skopos Theory and its three rules have a critical guidance in biography translation.In addition,several points should be noticed during the process of translating the historical text.For example,the words translation should be accurate,the meaning of the words must conform to its historical sources.The translation of the sentences should conform to its language context and the translator should adopt the literary language to express its meaning.The last point is given to the text translation,translator should pay attention to the connection between the semantic and interlingual in the context,and the culture loss should be noticed in the process of translation.
