A Study Of <Alfred's Basic Adult All-in-One Course>

Piano teaching material is an important carrier of piano teaching activities.It can fully reflect the editor's teaching ideas and concepts and is a "cultural intermediary" that is conducive to students' development.Therefore,an adult piano textbook with excellent teaching philosophy contributes to the piano education of adults.Alfred's Basic Adult All-in-One Course is the most popular piano textbook for adults in the United States.In this paper,this book is studied from its teaching philosophy,knowledge structure as well as contents and interpretation of features of this book in line with adult learning characteristics is made to offer some references for the compilation of domestic adult piano textbooks.By studying adult piano textbooks of other developed countries,we can absorb advanced foreign ideas and ways of textbook compilation.At the same time,we can also inherit the national features of domestic textbooks in the light of the principle of advancing gradually in due order and teaching students in accordance with their aptitude.In this way,we can learn from others' strong points to offset our weakness and achieve a comprehensive use of different methods,which will promote progress in China's adult piano textbook compilation and research.This paper studies volume 1,2,3 of Alfred's Basic Adult All-in-One Course,published by Alfred Music in 1994 and analyzes and summarizes the relevant materials and literatures.The first part of the article is a brief overview of the background,the compiling ideas and principles of the book and an illustration of the knowledge structure of it.The second part involves an analysis of the course contents,theoretical exercises,the characteristics of the repertoire.The third part makes a conclusion of this textbook and puts forward some suggestions for domestic piano textbook compilation.
