A Translation Report On Memorandum Of Understanding :Post-retirement Medical Care

This thesis is a report on the translation of Memorandum of Understanding: Post-Retirement Medical Care-General Motors Corp.and the UAW.Based on the translation of this MOU,this report discusses the application of word conversion in translating legal documents by illustrating the examples in the translation.Word conversion refers to converting certain words in the source language text into other word classes in the target language text to achieve the accuracy and fluency of translation,which is very necessary for the translation of legal documents.When translating Memorandum of Understanding: Post-Retirement Medical Care-General Motors Corp.and the UAW,the author mainly adopted the techniques of word conversion as follows: converting English nouns into Chinese verbs,converting English verbs into Chinese nouns,converting English adjectives into Chinese verbs,converting English adjectives into Chinese nouns,converting English prepositions into Chinese verbs.The author hopes this report can be of some help for other translators when translating legal documents.
