The Conversion Of Parts Of Speech For Legal Documents

This report is based on the translation of Marriage Act 1955 of New Zealand. The main purpose is to demonstrate the Conversion of Parts of Speech in translating legal documents. In the process of translating from English to Chinese, the grammar and sentence structure may be different from the original version and the real meaning of the translated paragraph may be changed if the translation is strictly done word by word directly. Therefore, in the process of translating from English to Chinese for legal documents, the translated documents will be much more accurate and fluent if the real meaning of the document is being first understood and then translated using Conversion of Parts of Speech with sufficient flexibility. The Marriage Act 1955 of New Zealand was published and come into effect in 1955. It is in fact considered a well-developed, high level and invaluable set of legal documents. By translating the Marriage Act 1955 of New Zealand, it can allow our law students to learn more about good marriage acts as well as the New Zealand culture. It can be used as a reference to improve our marriage regulations in China.This report is separated into five chapters as follows: Chapter One is Introduction. It mainly includes project background, purpose, structure, and introduction of Marriage Act 1955 of New Zealand, etc. Chapter Two introduces the problems during translating the Marriage Act 1955 of New Zealand, and analyzes the translation methods. Chapter Three is the application of the Conversion of Parts of Speech for the Marriage Act 1955. The author analyzes the application processes and effects of the Conversion of Parts of Speech. Chapter Four is the analysis for the Conversion of Parts of Speech in translating the legal documents based on the summary of Chapter Three, and then the author summarizes the translation methods and guiding principles for the Conversion of Parts of Speech in Legal English-Chinese Translation. Chapter Five is the conclusion of this translation project. It summarizes the author’s experience and identifies issues to be resolved, and it establishes a stronger foundation for the author as a professional translator in the future.
