The degree complement of modern Chinese has a special subcategory which has a negative form on the morphology, such as"bu xing"(??),"bu cheng"(??),"bu de liao(liao bu de)"(???????),"bu yi ban"(???)(including "bu zhong"(??),"bu di "(??),"bu ding"(??),"bu neng"(??)in the dialect),etc. In view of their particularity, this thesis aims to make a synchronic description on the three planes:syntax, semantics and pragmatics and do a research on grammaticalization of them from the diachronic perspective. The argument of this thesis is that the degree complement with a negative form on the morphology of modern Chinese has such main grammatical features:They are the cohesive and functional indications of the degree of the predicate verb. This thesis seeks to enrich the research on the complement system and degree category of modern Chinese as well as providing reference for some relevant research on emerging degree complement and teaching Chinese as a foreign language. The first chapter is the introduction part.First,we interpret the necessity and the value of our thesis topic selection;second,we review the studies and explainations on relevant question in academia;third,we analyse the existing problems and our right directions in the futrure;finally,we illustrate our basic purpose, our general objects, our theory methods, corpus sources of our study and so on.The second chapter is the analysis of the syntactic plane.First,we locate the syntax format"V/A+de(?)+DC(Neg)" in which the degree complement with a negative form on the morphology exists from the whole grammar system on the basis of determination of key study object;second,we discuss the word formation from the perspective of reanalysis;third,we emphatically analyze the four common syntactic characteristics which are postposition,complementarity-only,independence and dissymmetry on affirmation and negation;third,we illustrate the collocation of degree complement with a negative form on the morphology and the predicate verb. Finally,we list their application in various patterns of sentence. The third chapter is the analysis of the semantic plane and the pragmatic plane. On semantic plane,we analyze two common semantic features of the degree complement with a negative form on the morphology which are[abstract]and[negative]on the basis of analyzing the relationship between the basic meaning and the degree meaning.we also take "bu xing" for example to explain the extinction of negative meaning and the enhancement of degree meaning. On pragmatic plane,we point out the focus features, the expression, the style and the kind of situation which applied range is expanding gradually. The fourth chapter is the description of grammaticalization of the degree complement with a negative form on the morphology. We describe the grammaticalization process of "bu xing"(??),"bu cheng"(??),"bu zhong"(??),"bu neng"(??),"liao bu dei"(??? 1)and "bu de liaoi"(??? 1),"liao bu de2"(??? 2),"bu de liao2"(??? 2)and point out the source of their degree meaning as well by observing three kinds of basic meaning which are " negative evaluation "," cannot be ended" and " unusual ".The fifth chapter is the the rest part.First,we analyze the emerging degree complement with a negative form on the morphology of modern Chinese which are "bu xing bu xing de"(?????)and "bu yao bu yao de "(?????);second,we compare and contrast degree expression between Chinese and English;third,we point out the error in second language acquisition(SLA)(especially in the translation on "so......that")and translate some degree complement with a negative form on the morphology. Finally,we point out the shortcomings of our study and the prospect as well as direction.
