Analysis On "Tune-based Erhu Playing" Art With Baovu Kuling And Unrealized Drean Of Red Mansions As The Examples

Master Min Huifen is one of the most outstanding and influential erhu players in contemporary China.All erhu works played by her have become the classic ones in history of erhu works without any exception.Connotations of the music expressed by her have been deeply embedded into the heart of people.Min Huifen started to make efforts for recomposing and transplanting erhu from the 1960s and studied traditional opera,aria and tune in large quantity.From then on,she had initiated the research and practice of the concept on "tune-based erhu playing".Erhu music "Baoyu Kuling" is one of the representatives studied and practiced by her.This paper takes the version of Baoyu Kuling sung by Xu Yulan,a performance artist of Yue Opera as one of the important bases,and analyzes it in combination with the version played by Min Huifen,and focuses on highlighting the changes of its rhymes and presentation of specific techniques with "tune characteristics" during the playing.Xu Jingxin is a famous composer of China and he has very profound accomplishments in the aspect of film,art and song,and he has composed a lot of excellent works since the 1980s.Then,he turned his eyes to works of national music.In particular,influenced by Baoyu Kuling created by Min Huifen,he extended it and created its companion piece Unrealized Dream of Red Mansions,a erhu concerto.Both works have unique points no matter in presentation of"tune-based" techniques or interpretations of works or in expressions of tastes and conceptions.Combining self playing experience and feelings,this paper focuses on analyzing structure and presentation of tune techniques,aiming to recognize and understand the reference and creative application of tune art in these two works and expecting to offer some inspirations and experience for others to get familiar with and create "tuned" erhu works.
