The Statistical Analysis Of Nasal Degree And Acoustic Characteristics In Beijing Dialect

Mandarin Syllable is the basic unit,single syllable composed by phonemes.In the process of sound,vowels?initials and tone of the sound will influence each other,so that each syllable pronunciation changes in different conditions.Beijing dialect of the sonorants are nasality,sonorant nasal degree will have different changes in different vowels?initials and tone,consequently the nasal degree of vowels and continuant sounds may have different performance.Based on previous paper,this paper studied Beijing dialect of the sonorants by Nasometer(Kay Nasometer ? 6400).The specific content of Beijing dialect of the sonorants combination in Syllable Vowels?Syllable CV?Syllable NV/TV?Syllable VN(first tone)?Syllable CVN and Syllable NVN/TVN,this conclusions are as follows:(1)Vowels have its own intrinsic nasality.The intrinsic nasality of vowel is not entirely in the range of the oral vowel(0?40)and the intrinsic nasality of partial vowel is beyond the critical value(40).There is a cross range of about 10 degrees between seven basic vowels in Beijing Mandarin(also called 'simple vowels')and nasalized.In Syllable CV,there is a cross range of about 20 degrees between vowels and nasalized.(2)The distribution of nasalized is more concentrated than that of vowels.There is a cross range of about 10 degree between nasalized and vowel.(3)Nasal consonant and/l/?/r/have apparent opposition.(4)It is not precise enough to limit the degree of nasalized coda to 80?100.There is a cross range of about 10 degree between nasalized coda and nasalization.Between 70?80,sometimes nasalization and nasalized coda is obscure.(5)The nasality degree of nasalized is affected by the tone of the syllable.Generally the nasality degree of nasalized code in tone 1 and tone 2 is higher than tone 3 and tone 4,the nasality degree of nasalized coda in tone 4 is the lowest.(6)Gender can influence the nasality degree of Syllables,but this effect is not holistic.Meanwhile,this paper studied Beijing dialect of the sonorants by Praat.The specific content of Beijing dialect of the sonorants combination in Syllable Vowels?Syllable CV?Syllable NV/TV?Syllable VN(first tone),this conclusions are as follows:(1)The duration and intensity of seven basic vowels in Beijing Mandarin(also called 'simple vowels')are not related to their nasality degree.In other words,the duration and intensity of severn basic vowels have no influence on their own nasality degree.(2)In Syllable CV,basically the duration and intensity of vowels are not related to their nasality degree.In Syllable NV/TV,basically the duration and intensity of vowels are not related to their nasality degree,the duration and intensity of initial consonant are not related to their nasality degree.(3)According to the different situation of nasalized coda,this paper divided Syllable VN in 3 different conditions.This study found common features of these 3 Syllable VN:Basically,the duration and intensity of vowel segment and nasalized duration are related to their nasality degree;the duration of nasalized coda of these 3 Syllable VN are different,show a certain extent of change;the intensity of nasalized coda of these 3 Syllable VN are different and are not related to their nasality degree.In a word,through this experiment,Beijing Mandarin syllables with different nasality degree have different performance,its distribution is roughly determined but there will be a cross.Basically,the acoustics characteristics of single syllable are not related to their own nasality degree,especially the duration and intensity are not related to their nasality degree.
