The original text of this translation task is Report on Selected Recent Developments in European Union Maritime Law on CMI official website. The report is rich in information, involving a wide range of discipline, with a large number of terminologies. To achieve the purpose of accurate and proper translation of the original, the primary premise is to accurately translate the original terminologies. Therefore, the author takes the terminology translation as the research object of this translation practice, and summarizes the methods of the terminology translation on the basis of Catford's theory of translation equivalence. The Catford's translation theory is based on the text equivalence and formal correspondence. When the latter appears divergence,it is necessary to adopt the shift methods to achieve the purpose of translation.Firstly, the author classifies the terms in the original text as maritime terminology, legal terminology, economic terminology and environmental terminology.Maritime terminology includes abbreviations, common words used as maritime terminology and specialized maritime terminology. The legal term is strictly standardized, involving common words for legal terminology, legal terminology and legal jargon. Both economic and environmental terminologies involve the use of common words as technical terminology,as well as economic or environmental terminology. In view of the characteristics of various terms, the author adopts two methods:literal translation and liberal translation, achieving faithful, authentic and consistent translation. The translation of terminology is the focus and difficulty of this translation practice,so it is very important to summarize the translation methods. Thus,it is of great necessity and meaning to study the translation methods of terminology in the original text.
