Cohesion is an important premise for discourse creation, and is also a significant part of discourse. It is a semantic concept manifested by the formal characterisitics.Report of the Marine Enviornment Protection Committee on its sixty-ninth session(MEPC 69),a report of maritime conference,is difficult in translation with the complicated terminology and complex structure. In addition, there are many differences in the cultures and convention between English and Chinese languages.Discourse cohesion has become a significant part of the translation process.Although a lot of studies on maritime translation in terms of long and complex sentences have been done, discourse cohesion in maritime text,as an outstanding issue, ought to be studied. This paper is a translation practice report on studying discourse cohesion in marine reports, which based on the translation shift theory put forward by J.C.Catford,summarizes four translation skills in Report of the Marine Enviornment Protection Committee on Its Sixty-ninth Session to deal with the cohesion between sentences and inner sentences,i.e.amplification,omission,conversion,and inversion. These four translation skills are hoped to offer reference to the translation of textual cohesion of maritime English in the future.
