Entrusted by and cooperated with the Federation of Social Science Association of Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, the author chose the report on Tujia Imperial Tiger Hunters-An Introduction to the Tujia People of China to conduct the translation practice and compose the thesis under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory. As for the essence of Nida's functional equivalence theory, the translator should translate the source language with the closest and natural equivalent receptor language, and the target text should be judged by the target readers' natural response. In a word, functional equivalence theory focuses more on the meaning and the spirit of the original text than on the or-iginal word and form, and the quality of translated text depends on the comparison of the way in which the original readers understood the text and the way in which the target readers understand and appreciate the target text. This paper discusses translation strategies in the translating process and analyzes why and how to adopt proper strategies under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory. In the thesis, the author analyzes the translation strategies applied in translating process from four levels:lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence. As with concrete translation skills, the author adopted methods of omission, amplification, cutting, conversion, blending and rearrangement of sentence in order to represent the original information for the target readers exactly and effectively. The writer boldly applies various tactics to get rid of the restriction of linguistic forms in the translating process. In this paper, translation cases are analyzed to help explain the translation strategies.By summarizing this task, the author also hopes to share experience with other MTI students, contributing to the improvement of each other.
