With the further advancement of China's reform and opening-up policy along with the participation of WTO,the interaction and collaboration between China and other countries in various fields, especially the engineering field, have become increasingly frequent, which overwhelmingly accelerates the translation demand of engineering projects. In the light of the data from 2002-2003 Asia Globalization Resources Survey,People's Republic of China, the translation of engineering English has accounted for 53% in the whole translation market of engineering projects both at home and abroad. The data of this thesis was collected from the author's translation of the PT PLN,Indonesia State-owned Electric Power Corporation,Engineering Project(hereinafter abbreviated as the Project)that contains the contents of the general and special conditions of contract at Chengdu Linguist Translation Service Company(hereinafter referred to as the Company)when she conducted her translation practice from July to September in 2015.As the translation of engineering contracts must rigorously conform to the principle of information dissemination, which resembles the translation requirement of information equivalence of Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory. It is for this very reason that the author has determined to employ the principle of information equivalence to cope with the specific lexical and syntactic problems of the Project. With regard to the lexicon of the Project, the author has mainly utilized the principle of lexical equivalence to reflect their particular implications of some specific words. While in the case of the intricate sentence, the author,in the interest of syntactic equivalence, has chiefly adopted three strategies involving following the original syntactic order, turning phrases into clauses and reinventing sentence structures. The analysis of this thesis has demonstrated that an entire professional translation process should cover the following aspects: negotiation of the project, conclusion of the contract, acceptance of the order, formation of the team, allocation of the task, preparations for the task, communication during translation, revision of the translated text, collection of the Client's feedback and summary of the project. In addition, the author believes that it is a must for translators to acquire the knowledge of project management containing quality, time, cost, scope, human resources, communication, risks, purchase, stakeholder and integration.Furthermore, the author considers that a qualified professional translator should be equipped with some basic working credentials like substantial bilingual capacity of both English and Chinese, encyclopedic knowledge of various subjects, adept use of CAT particularly the TRADOS,strong sense of responsibility, and at the same time, some individual accomplishments comprising prominent political, cultural, psychological and confidential awareness.Last but not least, being acquainted with some knowledge of translation theory is of great significance for the translation of engineering project.
