The travel industry has been booming since the 21 st century with relevant travel books published all the time.Translation of travel books are becoming more popular in these days.This will promote the dissemination of travel culture,deepen readers’ knowledge about travel resources in different countries,entertain their lives and broaden their horizon.In this translation project,the author selects California the Beautiful Cookbook as translation materials according to both personal interests and practicability and performs translation under the guidance of Vermeer’s Skopos theory.This book introduces a culinary culture and local customs and practices with vivid contents in words and images.It is a good translation material.The report can be divided into five parts in total: first,the report briefly introduces the subject and background of this project,abundant travel resources and culinary culture of California and the purpose and significance of the project;then,it specifically describes the translation task,including a brief induction about the book,the readership and the introduction of Skopos theory;in the third part,it describes the translation process,including preparations before translation,quality control,selection of translation techniques and tools etc.;the fourth part is case analysis where the author selects some typical examples and performs analysis by exerting the relevant translation skills and methods;and the report at the end concluded this translation practice,including the discussion of benefits and deficiencies of this translation project and inspirations the author has acquired.Through this translation practice,the author learns that how to accurately and authentically deliver the information and mood of the source text under the cross-language cultural gap is a key and difficult point.By incorporating translation practice with the Skopos theory,the author revivifies customs and a culinary culture of California more efficiently and better achieves the intended functions of the translation,so as to benefit international culinary culture exchange and tourism development.
