This report is based on the chapters Experiencing 9-11 selected from Master of Disaster which is written by Frank Krake—a Holland entrepreneur.Experiencing 9-11 is a memoir which belongs to documentary literatre. It presents a narrative non-fiction item which combines both"documentary" and "literature" features. In view of true figures and events of current and historical real-life,documentary literature adopts a way of expression more closely related to literature. From an entrepreneur's perspective, the selected translation material mainly depicts his 9·11 experience with an aim to handling financial crisisand helping company escape from dilemma,so as to probe into his burdensome business-pioneering.The semantic and communicative translation put forward by Peter Newmark is chosen as the theoretical basis in translation practice. In the course of translation practice, many translation difficulties encountered by the writer include the proper nouns, word selection and special sentence pattern.Centered on these occurring translation problems and combined with translation theory, this practice report adopts case analysis and chooses feasible translation methods such as addition and omission, literal translation and free translation, and split and combined translation to produce a readable and ideal target text. This report comprises five parts. The first part is an introduction to background of translation practice, significance of the report and its basic structure. The second part gives a brief description of the author and the ST,and makes a detailed introduction to semantic and communicative translation theory. The third part makes a process description. The forth part is the core of this report, which analyses translation difficulties under the enlightenment of semantic and communicative translation at the lexical and syntactic levels. In the last part the writer draw a conclusion about the limitations and gains in the translation practice.
