Phonetics is a major component of any given language,and it's the basis of all students that are learning a given language.Students learning Chinese in Kenya are first introduced to Chinese phonetics whenever they start learning the language.While learning Chinese vocabulary as well as grammar,one can not afford to avoid learning and mastering of the Chinese Phonetics.Therefore,Chinese pronunciation is very essential for learning Chinese students in Kenya.The author takes teaching Chinese phonetics in Kenya as the main subject of this study,and tries to put forward a new teaching design first by considering the present situation and problems that are being faced while learning and teaching Chinese phonetic in Kenya.The author first introduces the reasons in addition to the significance of this study,the relative as well as relevant researches that have been done both locally and internationally,the research content and the difficulties faced,the research method and the innovation value of this study.The second chapter describes the basic content of Swahili and Chinese phonetics,and compares the Swahili and Chinese phonetics,first by comparing Chinese initials and Swahili consonants,then comparing Chinese finals and Swahili vowels,Chinese tone and Swahili stress intonations.The third chapter analyzes the present situation of teaching Chinese phonetics at Kenyatta University and the problems in addition to the countermeasures respectively.The fourth chapter puts forward a teaching design for teaching Chinese phonetics at Kenyatta University,and gives detailed explanation on how to teach Chinese initials,finals and tones at the Kenyatta University,respectively,with zh,ü in addition to the second tone.The fifth chapter puts forward the conclusion of this paper,and points out that the difficulties while learning Chinese phonetics for Chinese students at Kenyatta University is as a result of the influence of their mother tongue;thus puts forward their own teaching methods as well as principles,and puts forward the relevant and relative recommendations respectively.
