This paper is a translation practice study report. The translation practice is taken from Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow, written by J-K Jerome who is a famous British humorist. He extends the language connotation via humorous, satiric, and free words. The author of the original book expresses the specific writing style incisively and vividly by using the cultural word and rhetoric speech.Based on the excerpts, this study report makes a specific analysis under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory. This study mainly focuses on the cultural words, long sentences, rhetorical sentences, philosophical sentences and the writing style.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory,I select appropriate translation methods. The major translation problem has basically been solved. The final translation adheres to the equivalent effect in the whole. The translation methods and case used in this study report will provide a case reference for my study in the future.
