Project Report On Chinese Translation Of World Employment And Social Outlook 2016

This project is based on the translation of World Employment and Social Outlook 2016, which is an international report selected from the official website of International Labor Organization. It is a survey report on national household from 103 countries, which introduces the issues of employment and poverty in those countries,as well as an analysis of the reasons and the poverty reduction measures. This project aims to provide reference and suggestions for each country to eliminate poverty with the hope of wiping out poverty throughout the world.The translator chooses and translates the second and third section of the first part.Based on the analysis of project background,structure and text features,the translator sums up all the major issues and difficulties in English-Chinese translation,including terminologies and set phrases, complex sentences, and multiples. Guided by skopostheorie and functional equivalence, the translator tries to figure out solutions to tackle these problems. In terms of the large number of relevant terminologies and set phrases the original text employs, the translator brings in three techniques:amplification, substitution, and reference to the parallel texts in dealing with terminology and set phrase translation relying on the skopostheorie. Meanwhile, In order to clearly demonstrate the logic and meanings of the complex sentences in the text, the translator puts forward two techniques: division and reorganization as well as sequencing and conversion instructed by functional equivalence. Thirdly, a wide existence of numbers, especially the multiples are not rare in the project and they play a key role in precise information transmission. Hence,the translator introduces one technique fraction conversion to tackle multiple translation difficulties. Finally, the translator concludes the project report and proposes measures for improvement.
