As a translation report, this material is excerpted from World Gender and Environment Outlook 2016,an official report published by United Nations Environment Programme. The selected text(chapter 1)illustrates the development of environmental feminist movement, the commitments and efforts made by the international community to achieve gender equity and sustainability, women's representation in global gender and environmental issues and the connection between gender and environment. The report aims to provide some beneficial information on the latest development and confronting challenges of gender and environment for those who are interested in these fields.During the translation process, the difficulties, including long sentences, terminologies and lack of related sociological knowledge, are encountered. The translator adopts some translation methods, such as conversion, division and combination and inversion to address those difficulties. To shake off the restriction of original text and make the translation smoother and more accurate, the Functional Equivalence Theory is the theoretical guidance of this report, advocating that meaning matters the most while form matters less in translation. This report consists of five chapters: introduction, the source text, preparation work and difficulties in translation, translation theory and translation methods and conclusion,of which chapter three and four are the focus.
