| Interpreting of science and technology is highly challenging due to its innate demands professionalism and high accuracy. Engineering interpreting is the interpreting activity involved in technical exchanges, engineering construction and the introduction of technology and equipment. Both types of interpreting were used during the BBH INTERCON software commissioning of Jiangsu Grand Theatre. In this report, the reporter describes the challenges and obstacles encountered in the project and offers problem-solving strategies.Highlights of this report are the technicality and complexity of science and technology and engineering interpreting, as well as the corresponding coping strategies. Problems surfaced while the one-month project progressed, such as reporter's inability to comprehend and interpret as a result of insufficient technical knowledge and inexpert on-the-spot reaction. After theory study and reflection, the reporter made the following interpreting strategies: first, prepare beforehand to make up for knowledge gap and hone multi-tasking skills to be able to study whilst interpreting; second, familiarise with various English accents, seize and make good use of every interpreting opportunity to enhance adaptability; third, cultivate psychological resilience to perform under strain. |
