Regional Distribution Difference Of Place Names In Zhejiang Province

Place names are the combinations of such various factors as geographical environment,history,language culture,custom,economy,the mode of social production in a specific area,and place names have strong regional features.Most place names' characteristics which have been preserved for a long time can well reflect these places' natural and humane landscape before and nowadays.Besides,place names,once created,will have a strong inheritance and stability.Therefore,the multi-angle characteristics of places names' connotations allow us to investigate their naming elements,explore their naming rules,distribution features and distribution disparities and further reveal their natural and humane geographical enviroment situation.Zhejiang Province is the birthplace of Wuyue culture and Jiangnan culture,and it is convenient for water carriage.When China's economy and culture center moved southward to Yangtze River,Zhejiang's economy and culture has been developing rapidly,which gives it a rich cultural deposit.In terms of natural geographical environment,Zhejiang has many mountains,highlands,rivers,lakes and seas.This paper which analyzes Zhejiang Province's administer village names' etymology types from the perspective of geography aims to represent Zhejiang's unique cultural and humane geographical enviroment situation by its administer village names' naming elements and figure out Zhejiang Province's administer village names' distribution features,regional disparities and formation reasons.This paper is composed of the following six parts:The first part outlines the purpose and significance of the study between Zhejiang's administer village names and geographical environment elements,data resource and research methods,place names' research status at home and abroad and some related basic theories.The second part introduces Zhejiang Province's general situation of the natural and humane geographical environment,historical evolution and administrative divisions.The third part reports Zhejiang Province's administrative village names' etymology types and statistical results.It shows thatplace names which are related to such natural geographical environment factors as terrain,hydrology,azimuth and resource can be divided into 15 small categories.And place names which are related to suchhumane geographical environment factors as surname,willingness,architecture,economy and military can be divided into 17 small categories.The fourth part analyzes Zhejiang Province's administer village names' density and concludes Zhejiang Province's administer village names' unbalanced characteristics in spatial distribution.Zhejiang Province's administer village names' spatial distribution contains rich geographical information.And its naming elements can reflect Zhejiang's natural geographical features,varied economy activities,immigration culture,locality culture and its coastal defence history full of smoke.The fifth part analyzes topographic and hydrologic village names' density distributionand concludes that the distribution disparities of these two types of village names is closely related to the local terrain and hydrology and geographical environment.By calculating the intensity and complexity of humane village names which are related tosurname,architecture,economy,military,the author finds out regional distribution disparities of different kinds of village names and further illustrates the reasons.The sixth part makes a summary of the study and points out its limitations.
