The source language text of this translation report is the excerpt of Revolutionary Culture” in Mudanjiang's History.This material introduces the heroic deeds of revolutionary activists in the battle of liberating Mudanjiang City.There is historical value and public popularity in this transition material.In this translation report,the author solves problems when translating under the guidance of formal correspondence theory which refers to replacing the forms and structures in source language with corresponding forms and structures in target language to the best of the author's ability.The author attaches importance to the reaction of forms to contents,avoids paying more attention to contents but neglecting forms.The main differences in linguistic forms of modes of thinking between English and Chinese is “hypotaxis” and “parataxis”.The corresponding conversion of linguistic forms transforms paratactic language into hypotactic language to make the translation accord with the mode of thinking of target readers and transform the original text into a more authentic version.First,the author introduces the background and characteristics of this translation task and related literature review.Second,the author describes the translation process.Third,the author gives a comparison and analysis to the original respectively from lexical correspondence,subject-predicate structure correspondence and textual organization correspondence according to different organization features in Chinese and English.The author studies the essence and possibility of formal correspondence and agrees that the essence of formal correspondence is a flexible correspondence,achieving an overall correspondence by individual correspondence.This translation practice further develops the theory of formal correspondence and provides practical guidance for further translating.Finally,the author sums up the experience,inspiration and unsolved problems in this translation.
