Marketing is what brings value to customers,partners and whole society in the process of producing,promoting and exchanging products.Marketing is also an essential subject that is at the core of our lives both for consumers and for employees or managers in organizations.It will be helpful for the research and activities related to marketing if the materials about marketing in English can be translated into Chinese appropriately.The present report deals with the translation of the first chapter The Nature of Marketing in Foundations of Marketing from English into Chinese,which covers the nature of marketing,the development of marketing,marketing and business performance,the scope of marketing,and planning marketing activity.It explores the translation strategies of the passive voice in the text,and describes the translation process in detail as well.On the basis of Skopos Theory and the cases in the source text,the report summarizes such translation strategies as translating the English passive voice into the active voice in Chinese,translating the English passive voice into the passive sentences in Chinese,translating the English passive voice into the sentences with BA and YOU in Chinese,and translating the sentence of passive voice beginning with IT.By following the strategies,translators are sure to translate fluently and idiomatically.
