Formula One Racing(F1)has always been a world-class high-level racing competition that has attracted attention from all over the world.Manufacturers from all over the world have set up teams to participate.Since the fifties,it has affected the hearts of hundreds of millions of fans around the world.Different from rally and touring car,it is the perfect combination of technical research, teamwork and driver skills. The Science of Formula 1 Design is a book that analyzes the design science of a Formula One racing car from a professional perspective. It has ten chapters that describe and explain in detail the design principles, working principles, development process, status quo,and prospects of each component. The author David Tremayne is a British racing journalist. He has extensively written articles on land speed records and published several books on various racing cars. The Science of Formula 1 Design is one of his many outstanding works. This translation practice report is based on the four chapters of this book. The translator translates and learns the working principles and design sciences of transmissions, electronic equipment, suspensions, steering and braking in racing. The report is closely related to two aspects and catches the salient features of technical texts: words and sentences.Words in technical texts include professional vocabulary,semi-professional vocabulary, and common vocabulary.Sentences often use a lot of passive voice and nominal structure. In the practice of translation, the passive voice has pragmatic functions of establishing topics, objective expression, and structural balance. When dealing with the passive voice, four kinds of translation methods aremainly used, which are keeping passive voice, converting to active voice, translating into sentences with no subject and translating the passive voice of "it" as the formal subject. In terms of theoretical integration, from the perspective of translation Skopos theory, the translator follows the principles of coherence, purpose, and fidelity to analyze the passive voice, and uses short, refined language to make the physics and science design more clear. The concept is presented to readers,so that readers, including fans, can enjoy the speed and passion brought by racing, and they can understand more about the specific operations of their favorite cars.
