As the status of China is rising in the world, its long history and rich cultural deposits appeal to a large number of domestic and oversea tourists.Hainan,as a great tourism province of China, attracts millions of foreign tourists with its fascinating tropical scenery, abundant natural resources, pleasant climate and colorful culture, which brings economic boom to Hainan. However, due to the causes such as language differences and cultural disparity, the foreign visitors find it hard to understand the tourism culture of Hainan, thus, the author was entrusted by Transn Company to undertake the C-E project A Travel Guide Book to Hainan. The completion of the book will give those tourists a better understanding of Hainan tourism and fill them with the desire to visit Hainan, thus, promoting economic boom of Hainan tourism industry. At present, researches on tourism translation of Hainan are mostly theoretical. In view of this reality, the studies of the report are conducted based on the cases of the C-E project, which is a tourism text including accommodations, cuisines, scenic spots and local folk customs of Hainan and so on.Hence, the study of the report will offer directive significance for relevant translations.Starts from the analysis of problems the author encountered during the translation of the tourism text, this report is intended to probe into the effective strategies and techniques to solve the problems in light of Functional Equivalence Theory. On the basis of analyses of the problems,it is concluded as follows.Firstly, the response of the target readers should be considered in translation.Secondly, integrated translation strategies and techniques should be adopted flexibly in order to fulfill the cultural gaps between the source text and the target text and make the target text more readable to the receptors. Finally,a better knowledge reserve and an experienced operation on computer-aided translation device are beneficial to improve the quality and efficiency of tourism translation. The report consists of four chapters. The first chapter is the overview of the project which covers its background, its requirements and its task distribution. The second chapter covers preparatory works that include the stylistic analysis of the text and the collection of the parallel texts and terminologies;translation process that includes the brief introduction of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory and the choices of translation tools;post translation that includes the revision of the author and the revision of the proofreader. The third chapter is the analysis of the problems encountered during the project, including problems in translating cuisines,four-character idioms and culture-loaded terms, under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory, the author solved those problems by adopting strategies and techniques as domestication, free translation, hermenia, restructuring, omission and so on.The fourth chapter is reflections including self-assessment and lessons drawn from the project. It is expected to shed light on relevant C-E tourism translators by the research of the project.
