As globalization continues apace, translation,as an international communication medium, has become even more crucial. The translation of literary works plays a positive role in promoting cultural exchange and development between China and foreign countries.Chick Lit is the product of modern popular literature, which has been popular with female readers all over the world. It caters to modern women's pursuit of freedom and independence and has a positive impact on women's growth. My Not So Perfect Life is an excellent foreign Chick Lit work.Translating the book into an accurate and smooth Chinese literary work is conducive for Chinese readers to learn western cultural trend. The thesis is a translation practice report based on the Chapter Four and Chapter Five of My Not So Perfect Life. The language of the book is quite vivid and humorous. There are many psychological descriptions and short sentences in the text and how to translate them into idiomatic Chinese expressions has become a major difficulty. The report takes Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory as its guidance, and analyzes the typical cases from the perspective of lexicon, syntax and text respectively. In addition,it discusses the language transformation in English-Chinese translation, and summarizes a variety of translation methods and techniques, such as free translation, literal translation plus annotation and recasting. In this way,the translation can not only be faithful to the source text, but also reproduce the style of the source language and then achieve the overall functional equivalence. The functional equivalence theory plays an important role in the translation of Chick Lit.This report can provide certain reference significance for the translation practice and research of Chick Lit,and enrich the translation experience of modern popular literature.
