In recent years,China has made great progress in space science with advanced scientific results constantly emerging. How to translate these results with high quality will be significant to academic exchanges and publicity. However, the translator is short of specialized knowledge of space science,so the quality of translation can not be guaranteed. That goes against scientific research and cooperation.Under the above background, the author takes the translation of the Research of Space Science Programs 2016-2030 as the research object. The source text of the project is logical in semantic. It also contains a great number of technical terms and some expressions with Chinese cultural characteristics. The source text belongs to informative texts.According to Newmark's semantic translation theory, the translator shall accurately convey the original information into the target language and keep the contents and form of the original;meanwhile, his communicative translation requires the translator attempts to produce the same effect on the target readers as close as was produced by the original on the source language readers. In the translation process, the translator found difficulties in verifying and unifying technical terms, translating expressions with Chinese characteristic, translating Chinese long sentences and reframing the structure of original text to comply with the target language.Under the guidance of Newmark's translation theory, the translator mainly adopted literal translation in translating technical terms. As for the translation of expressions with Chinese culture characteristics, the translator used transliteration and free translation according habits of the target readers. When translate the long sentences in the original, the translator used addition, division, combination and other techniques by reframing the structures of original sentences in order to make the translation reflect the original meanings as well as close to the readers. The translator completed the translation task on time. Finally, the author also selected some cases for detailed analysis.Based on the above research, the author draws conclusions.Because of the great differences between the Chinese and English language, the original contents and structures must be reorganized in translation process. The original meanings can not be fully expressed in the target language by making them equivalent literally.Translator shall choose the appropriate translation strategies according to the specific situation. This report summarizes the author's experience and reflection in this translation practice, enumerates some practical translation techniques and cases which aim to offer some reference for translators who are working on the translation of space science texts.
