| Popular science texts are mainly to spread scientific knowledge.And the texts have scientific and interesting features.With a great number of readers,the translation of popular science texts makes higher demands on translators who should have profound knowledge and take different translation tactics in different situations.Therefore,translation should be faithful and precise to scientific facts.Meanwhile,translation should be easy to read,considering readers' various background.This paper is based on UNESCO Science Report.The author translates the parts of the developments of Russia and Central Asia,which includes economy,politics,education,technology,culture,society and diplomacy etc.The content of popular science texts involves lots of areas and words used in the text is formal.Peter Newmark's translation theory includes the theory of semantic translation theory and communicative translation theory.The meaning of semantic translation is that the translator tries to reproduce the exact contextual meaning of the original text in the target sentence and semantic constraints;communicative translation means that translated texts should have the same effect on the target language readers as the original texts on the source language readers.Based on Newmark's translation theory as well as the characteristics and functions of popular science texts,this paper explores translation tactics of popular science text translation.Then,this paper gives a brief explanation of some specific translation methods and techniques and analyzes several cases with the methods and techniques.At last,this paper makes a summary of the translation practice,expounds the translation experience and enlightenment,and puts forward some problems that need to be solved.Through the review of the translating process,the author gets a lot of experience.And the author would also be flattered and honored if the experience has some help to the translation in the future. |
