The Contrastive Study Of Two Chinese Conjunctions "Erqie" And "Bingqie"—Based On Corpus

"Erqie" and "Bingqie" is a pair of near-meaning conjunctions in modern Chinese.So far,the research results of the similarities and differences between these two words are not rich,and the depth is not enough.This paper analyzes the similarities and differences between"Erqie" and "Bingqie" in terms of semantics,syntax and textual performance,then contrasts the distribution and use of them based on the corpus of Peking University(CCL)and Beijing Language and Culture University(BCC),at last,we try to explore the causes of their pragmatic differences.According to the study,conclusions are as follows:1.In semantic:"Erqie" and "Bingqie" can express parallel relationship and progressive relationship.When expressing parallel relationship,in most cases both can be used interchangeably;when expressing progressive relationship,"Erqie" can connect verbs and adjectives,but "Bingqie" generally connect verbs.2.In syntax:When connecting multiple items,the position of "Erqie" and "Bingqie"can be adjusted according to the characteristics of the expression;"Erqie" and"Bingqie" can only connect the predicate component,but not the substantive part;"Bingqie" usually cannot connect monosyllabic adjectives;"Erqie" and "Bingqie"can be saved when connecting two actions that have occurred or occur at almost the same time and are not closely connected with the front and back items.The syntactic difference of the two is mainly reflected in the connection of the subject-predicate sentence,"Erqie" can only be used in front of the subject;and "Bingqie" can be used both in front of and back of the subject.3.In textual aspects:"Erqie" and "Bingqie" can both connect their front and back sentences to form the sentence group,the way of connection are reappear,and co-occur with other connectives,adverbs,phrases and so on.Whether the reappeared"Erqie" or "Bingqie" has a cross-sentence semantic association meaning,is mainly affected by their positions."Erqie" and "Bingqie" also have different situation in different styles:"Erqie" is more suitable for subjective style;"Bingqie" is more suitable for objective style.4.In reason aspects:By examining the historical development of "Erqie" and "Bingqie",we found that after replacing "Qiebing","Bingqie" developed rapidly,and the function of expressing progressive relationship was gradually fixed,and in the course of its subsequent development,the competitive relationship between "Erqie" and"Bingqie" emerged The competition between "Erqie" and "Bingqie" made the their shift use in different historical periods,and also promoted their pragmatic functions develop in a complementary way,which is the important reason why the two can still coexist.
